Synaptic doesn't have the required .desktop file in /usr/share/applications for it to show in 
the k-menu.  It has one instead in /usr/share/control-center-2.0/capplets/synaptic.desktop, it 
should also install a modified copy of this file to /usr/share/applications probably with 
OnlyShowIn=KDE.
