New kernal

I got an kernal update and after reboot now my resolution is back to 640x480
with no change options. I have an ati 9600 card, when I installed kubuntu
picked it up and got 1280x1024 on my 17"lcd, was wandering if someone could
point me in the right direction of where I need to go to solve this issue or
tell me the steps.

I am new to linux and am trying to merge completely away from windows. I
thank all for any advice in advance
