I just used K3b on a fresh install with recent CD without running k3bsetup at all.
Writing a CD-RW worked perfectly for me. As it looks like k3bsetup is only
needed for
setting permissions which should be set proper through the ubuntu / kubuntu
installation
anyways.

Is the user you're testing it with, actually in the admin group - means does the
user
have sudo rights?
