If I switch the DisplayPort connection to Off the audio is now
flickering between the "unplugged" port "Line Out" and "Speakers"!

If I turn the DisplayPort back on and select it as the audio path, the
"Speakers" and the "unplugged" port "Line Out" continue with their merry
dance
