The post 54 workaround fixed it for me, thanks much @khitschler.

Running Ubuntu 18.04.1 with latest stable kernel (5.4.0-42), but this
has been a problem since the upgrade from 16.04.

Since there are no issues with the workaround, it will remain in place
until the upgrade to 20.04.
