Public bug reported:

System: Kubuntu 18.04 LTS

What happened:
A few days ago, `apt-get dist-upgrade` upgraded from mysql-5.7 to mariadb-10.1. This seemed to evoke a bug similar something to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=873081, KMail started to misbehave and `akonadictl restart` failed:

...
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/akonadi-USER.Psvx2y/mysql.socket' (2 "No such file or directory")'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/akonadi-USER.Psvx2y/mysql.socket' exists!
...

I could not get Akonadi to work again.

Workaround:
Replacing mariadb by mysql again worked for me: `apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client`, but I am not sure if there are any unintended side effects.

** Affects: akonadi (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
