I can confirm this with 
Nvidia Driver 375.66
Ubuntu 16.04 + Kubuntu Backports
KDE Plasma Version 5.8.7
Kde Frameworks Version 5.36.0
and sddm

Workaround: use lightdm instead of sddm:
> sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
