Pier, I am not sure this limited to the Plasma session, as deleting the
default user from sddm.conf file result was login screen with horizontal
lines. Although the lines appear at the very late boot stage.

I think an answer (or at least a hint) to this issue is a difference between configuration files used:
1. To auto login
2. Manually logging in after exiting X
