Good news:

According to https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-
devel/2014-January/007856.html there will be backports of Qt 4.8.5
available for 13.10 and 12.04 LTS releases in experimental PPA
repositories.

Please test these as good as possible. If they do not fix this crash,
please add a comment. If they introduce other regressions, please report
them to Launchpad. In case there are no issues, there are chances for a
general backport later.
