[Bug 1271304] [NEW] crash when restoring previously installed packages

Public bug reported:
on an install of Kubuntu Trusty Alpha 2 candidate I installed it without
formatting / so the previous packages would be restored. However when
it tried to restore the previously installed packages it crashed.
