On my laptop, kde suspend just shuts down wireless connection but does not suspend the system. I tried on different kernels, including versions that worked on raring, but no success.
Also tried: 

dbus-send --print-reply --dest='org.freedesktop.PowerManagement'
/org/freedesktop/PowerManagement org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.Suspend

and the same thing happens.

pm-suspend works fine.
