Public bug reported:

I'm a fan of a few KDE apps, but don't use the KDE desktop environment.

I have installed and attempted to use the KDE desktop configuration tool
'systemsettings' to ensure that file dialogs of KDE-based apps use the
system-configured File Manager "Nautilus", rather than the developers
own favourite file manager. This setting is ignored.

In [KDE] SystemSettings -> Default Applications -> File Manager, I selected /usr/bin/nautilus . The settings panel helpfully reassures me with this text...
"The Entries in the K menu and all KDE Applications in which you can open folders will use this file manager"

However, this configuration change seems to have no effect, with both
Kate and Kdenlive continuing to load some kind of KDE-flavoured dialog
when navigating to File > Open after making the change.

Of course, the KDE file dialog is almost unusable in my case, just as if
I threw the Mac or Windows file open dialog into a sprinkling of your
own desktop apps. None of the system shortcuts or recent folder
bookmarks configured within Nautilus are available, and there is a
visual and mental dissonance with every other application on the
desktop, making it really hard for me to use these apps.

Is KDE really architected on the model of MS Windows and .Net - the
whole OS or nothing, our API or the high road? Or did I miss something
needed to trigger this change properly.
