Tried adding the following to my /etc/apt/sources.list.d:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu precise main

Ran "aptitude update ; aptitude upgrade " followed by a reboot.

X now aborts with a sig11 error, as reported by kdm.log:
