I think I found something that helps - I'll admit I can't piece it all together on my own, and I've had ZERO feedback here, but to save someone else YEARS of digging, I found this:

Doesn't help anything with the static/squeaking/bit-shifting, again,
more than willing to help here if someone would even acknowledge a human
has READ this......  But it so far has fixed my disappearing bass
problem, and several other peoples' as well.


(The important part:
This is just a guess, but in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf set enable-lfe-remixing: no to yes and make sure it is not commented (has no semicolon in front of it). If you made changes, save them and restart your system (or just pulseaudio).
