While autohiding in upstream is justified with screen space saving, in
Kubuntu we have appmenu widget that allows us to save screen space in
another way - by not having a menubar (in button form factor).

To sum up, the panel contains appmenu button, clock, current keyboard
layout and notifications, which i personally would like to be able to
see on the screen all the time.

If my argument is not enough, i suggest putting a poll to get some
stats.
