You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After starting picard on a fresh oneiric installation the application
window shows up for a second, then ubuntu falls back to login screen. I
tried to start picard via terminal several times. One time it didn't
crash the whole system but picard became unresponsive without showing
the window i.e. the application windows appeared to be 'empty' like all
interface elements could not be drawn.

terminal output:
(python:4999): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

(python:4999): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
QWidget::setMinimumSize: (/MainWindow) The largest allowed size is (16777215,16777215)

see also output in stderr.txt
