[Bug 802397] [NEW] Literally every other attempt to log into gnome crashes

Public bug reported:

Literally, as in, not just a 50% chance, but the first attempt succeeds,
the second attempt fails, the third attempt succeeds, the fourth fails,
and so on. This applies both to "classic gnome" and Unity.

It doesn't seem to be user-specific either - e.g.

login "alan" - suceed (and then logout)
login "gnome-test" - fail
login "alan" - suceed (and then logout)
login "gnome-test" - fail
