Binary package hint: phonon

Clean install of a Natty daily build ISO from 18th Dec. Using the
GStreamer backend for phonon I can't get any audio out of anything, not
even KDE notifications. Video files play video but no audio comes out. A
playback stream is visible in KMix and the volume is up full, but
nothing can be heard.

Non-phonon apps (eg mplayer) work correctly.

I installed the phonon Xine backend and that, too, works correctly.

The GStreamer backend has always been a crock, why the switch?
