I'm having the issue in Kubuntu Lucid (10.04) . I'm looping in the login
screen. I enter my username and password, see a white rectangle flash,
and then bounce back to the login screen.

If I do a console login and then:

startx

all is well, so its more of an annoyance than anything critical.

In syslog I see

kdm_greet[1796] Cannot load
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/faces/.default.face: No such file or directory
