[Bug 714391] [NEW] missing icons in menu and other places

Hello,

I have been experienceing this issue even under 10.10 maverick and have
submitted a bug report without answer.

The problem is recursive under natty alpha 2: either icons are
completely missing from the menu structure on app selection or
dissappear and are replaced by the ? icon when hovered upon.

This bug is important as it is a regression since kde 4.45 (10.04)
which had absolutely no issue displaying icons on my system.

when asking for a cache update after reinstall of oxygen-icon-theme
here's what the system outputs:
