The problem did not disappear for me. It even worsened with the update
maverick -> natty. Kontact and other windows started to misbehave and
crash twice.

The bug is triggered by the selection of Settings - Configure Calender -
Date and Time - Holiday. I tried US and German as Holiday region. Using
them causes a delay of > 6 s for changing the month (in month view) and
occationally above behaviour. With (none)  as holiday region changing
month takes < 1s and the system is stable.

I am suggesting to reopen the bug.
