Public bug reported:
Bastian Holst wrote on 2010-10-1: Is there any reason why kde4libs is
built without libfam-dev/libgamin-dev? I think this is pretty important
for professional Kubuntu installations.
Rohan Garg wrote on 2010-10-13: ... libfam-dev will need to go a MIR.
Available in Universe: yes - for a long time now.
Rational:
libfam is required for Kubuntu/kde4 to properly see server file changes on nfs/diskless systems. This affects 3600 workstations and approximately 16,000 end-users in School District #73. There are other School districts around Brittish Columbia rolling out *buntu as diskless. See bug report for details.

Security:
libfam libgamin have not had any major security bugs for several years. Changelogs only reports small "low" priority changes for several years now - no major security bugs. Last security bug was reported and fixed back in 2002.
** Affects: kde4libs (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
