I have just updated KDE 4.4 RC1 to RC2 in Karmic from backport repositories and everything seems to work properly - there is the same new screen in ksplash after the KDM screen and even the same screen just before the KDM screen!
The only remaining "problem" are different resolutions (and may be also something else) of all of that pictures, but this may be caused by my display resolution - my laptop screen is 1280x800 (in this case it works probably correctly), but I usually have an external display connected instead of the built one, it is 1280x1024 and here are the problems (I have a suspicion the problems are caused by some kind of dependency on the default screen size).
