Hi, I had this same problem and the proposed workarounds didn't work.
However, I discovered that my ~/.kde folder was owned by root, so it
wasn't accessible for a normal user. I performed "chown -R {username}
~/.kde" and Amarok works perfectly now.

By the way, I'm also using Karmik 9.10 64bit.
