This is happening on my system too. I used to use Brasero before but
once it started to give me bad discs, I started to use K3B, which does a
great job burning but hang when checking.

$ k3b --version
Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.10
K3b: 1.0.5

$ uname -a
Linux xxx 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18 19:25:34 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
