I am using Kubuntu 9.04, and just upgraded the packages for KDE 4.3. I
don't know if this is a problem because of the upgrade or not. Version
info:

kate:
  Installed: 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1
  Candidate: 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages

My typical way of working on source code editing is to open Dolphin, then using the fish protocol to view source files on a remote computer and then select the files and open them in Kate, and then edit them. A typical Dolphin url would be:

fish://remotehostname/home/username/src/c++/programname

Opening and editing files works good. However after a few successful
saves, Kate will then throw up a dialog box proclaiming:

Connection to host remotehostname is broken.

At this point, the source file on the remote host is now 0 bytes long.
The connection to the remote host using SSH seems fine, as I'm logged
onto the host using Konsole to compile and put the program into
production, and I can still move around with dolphin and even open up
more source files in kate, but if I try to do any more saves, the error
message pops up and the source file on the remote host is truncated.

** Affects: kde4libs (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Medium
         Status: Fix Released
