[Bug 441097] Re: update to 9.10 fails after package download

I had similar results.  I then used:

sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org-core

and then update-notifier-kde -d ran for a while until it crashed at some
file not found  error..

after removing the lock:   /var/dpkg/lock

the system was able to fix itself using

sudo  dpkg --configure -a


my system is working now....
