I have created a patch against the latest KDE SVN version which
implements a functionality similar to KDE 3.5:
http://reviewboard.kde.org/r/1056/ . It has been accepted by KDE, but
the next KDE release it will appear in is KDE 4.4 (i.e. Ubuntu 10.04,
probably).

In my Launchpad PPA, there is a patched kdebase package (for Jaunty with
Kubuntu Backports repository, i.e. KDE 4.3) with konsole taken from the
latest KDE SVN version: https://launchpad.net/~dreibh/+archive/ppa . I
will create a similar package for Karmic after its release.
