Hi, Richard,

Thanks for your interest.

As I was not able to solve the problem, I abandoned the version of the
distro and KDE 4.

I went to GNOME ubuntu v 8.04 LTS, then to xubuntu 8.04 LTS.
This latter version "works as advertised" and "out of the box" so I have
kept using it.

I have wondered if my memory (378MB) was a factor.
But buying more RAM for the DELL Dimension L667r with P lll is not as
easy as it might sound.

However, when I move to a later version, who knows??

The machine was set up as just a working spare, but I found that I liked
xubuntu 8.04 so much that I use it a lot on the WWW.

Regards,

Alan Weeks/.
