Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

The script

/etc/kde4/kdm/Xsetup

starts "ksplash" before displaying the greeter, which:
 - adds flickering (if themes other than default are used)
 - greatly increases delay until the greeter is displayed

Suggested fix:

remove the invocation.
