Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I have a problem with the preferences tool for changing the personal folders like Desktop, folders for Video, Music, Documents etc.
After I changed some folders, the changes take effect, and I can see that the program modified the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs as expected.
However, if I log off and log on again the changes made to the file are reverted and therefore my changes are lost.
The interesting part is, if I edit the file manually, the changes are persistent beyond logging off and on again.

I use kubuntu 9.10 with all updates

Steps to reproduce:
1. open the system settings tool and go to personal informations -> paths (I have a localized version, I'm just guessing the english names)
2. change one of the paths (to an existing directory)
3. review the changes in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs -> the changes you just made in the tool are reflected in this file
4. logg off or restart the computer
5. open the system settings tool again -> changes are reverted
6. Also the file ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs is reverted

Workaround:
Edit the file manually
