[Bug 342872] [NEW] running plasma under gnome breaks gnome-panel notification area

i am using an up-to-date intrepid

i am using gnome, but plasma seems to rock, so i gave it a try... it
runs reasonably, but there are some problems, first of all the gnome-
panel notification area gets wiped clean and does not work any more
(marked "A" in attached screenshot)

expected behavior is that running plasma does not interfere with gnome-
panel notification area.
