The problem is still present.

The issue with a workaround -- using a xineui + VCDO -- is that it
requires (or this is how I get this to work) unmounting VCD (which is
possible only from command line in Gnome).

There are a lot of cheap VideoCDs out there which contain cartoon
episodes, so it might affect a typical PC user.
