The drawing issues have improved in KDE 4.2. Even when minor background
corruption does occur it usually self-corrects next repaint. The main
issue is that the current xdg systray spec sucks, and that somewhere in
the realm of X, Qt and Plasma stuff ...happens. The main issue is that
systray icons themselves are tiny windows embedded in the panel, and if
their background gets drawn over in the right conditions the window
won't repaint.
