Kde 4.1 I think this is a driver problem, so try this:
Applications>System>Hardware drivers; a hardware drivers window should
now appear. If one or more accelerated graphics drivers, which have not
been activated, appear, then activate the only one or the recommended
one. You need this driver for desktop effects. This should get rid of
the flicker.
