I have just downloaded the 9.04 alpha 3 to try this. Volume up and down
works fine in Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 3, but mute still does not work. But
this is most likely caused by there not being a mute option on the PCM
channel of my sound card driver (Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS). I still do
not see why kmix cannot just store the volume and set the volume to 0
when pressing mute, and resetting the volume to the stored value when
pressing mute again, but that is not related to this bug.

Anyway, in Jaunty, volume up and down display is fixed for me.
