Public bug reported:
I recently upgraded my Lucid test box and downloaded the KDE 4.4 beta
packages. However, after I have done this, all KDE applications refuse
to start. When the system boots, instead of displaying KDM, it just
sits there with a spinning cursor. If I switch to a VT, stop KDM, and
start X manually with xinit, an xterm window comes up. If I attempt to
launch any KDE application with that terminal, it chews on the HDD for
just a second and then sits there doing nothing until I kill it. No
output is produced on the console or in the logs. Some of the apps I
have tried are kwin, dolphin, konsole, kate, and systemsettings. All
have the above behavior. Applications that use only Qt, however, such
as qtconfig and speedcrunch, work properly.
** Affects: kde4libs (Ubuntu)
Importance: Critical
Status: Confirmed
