This should be "fixed" in KDE 4.2.2 as long as you open kolourpaint
through the menu. We added the -graphicssystem raster flag to the
execution path of the .desktop file.

Otherwise you can use kolourpaint with the -graphicssystem raster flag
from the command line. Let's keep this but open, but bump down the
importance a bit.
