xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
in the KDM log looks interesting, I have no idea what it is though ;-)

Moving bug to nvidia-graphics-drivers-177, it appears to me there is no
issue with KDM whatsoever, it just tires starting the X server over and
over again, until it gives up and goes to failsafe mode, which
apparently is working.
