It is some library. Questions is which one ;-)

Please provide a backtrace of the crash (install kdegraphics-dbg, if
that was available in hardy at all). Then when kpdf crashes KCrash
should popup and spit out a backtrace for the crash. If that doesn't
work you should take a look at https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Backtrace it
provides information on how to manually get a backtrace.

If neither of these works you might want to run
strace kdpf --nofork > ~/kpdfcrash.strace 2>&1
(eventually you have to remove the --nofork option I don't know if it is available for kpdf) if all goes right you should have kpdfcrash.strace in your home. Please attach the file to this bug.

Best would be if you could get both, tracking library issues is a
somewhat difficult task :)
