Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept-updater

1) I am using Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.

2) The package in question is Adept Updater. Results of apt-cache policy
adept-updater:

--------------------
adept-updater:
  Installed: 2.1.3ubuntu25.1
  Candidate: 2.1.3ubuntu25.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.1.3ubuntu25.1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.1.3ubuntu25 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
--------------------

3) I expected to be offered updates that I could comfortably apply.

4) I was offered this package:

linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic

With this description:

--------------------
Ubuntu supplied Linux modules for version 2.6.24 on x86/x86_64

This package contains modules supplied by Ubuntu for Linux kernel 2.6.24
on x86/x86_64.

You likely do not want to install this package directly. Instead, install the linux-generic meta-package, which will ensure that upgrades work correctly, and that supporting packages are also installed.
--------------------

The warning makes it unclear whether the user should apply the update or
not.

** Affects: adept (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
