Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdemultimedia

Using Kubuntu 8.10. The sound is perfectly ok if I go on windows, so it is a software problem certainly.
I can hear music, but only at low volume, because over the music I hear this noise like "rattle-rattle", coming at high frequency, and the frequency increases if I increase the volume? What is it?
The problem comes with every sound, either with Amarok or with a system beep. If the loudspeakers are on but there is no sound playing, of course also the noise is silent.
I remark again that the frequency of the "rattle" noise sounds proportional to the volume of the speakers..

This problem was not there in my original version of Kubuntu, but after
an upgrade the problem appeared, and now, with 8.10 version, it seems
things are getting qualitatively even worse.

I am using this kmix.

kmix:
  Installed: 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

** Affects: kdemultimedia (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
