I had this same problem and also had to install package kdebase-kio-
plugins in order for Amarok to detect my iPod (in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+bug/66764 the package
appears to have been set a dependency of Amarok, but it is not now :-S
).
