I can confirm this.

With Kubuntu Alpha5 desktop CD, I select 'Install Kubuntu'
When Ubiquity starts, there is an error message caused by dcopserver not running:

"Error setting up communication for KDE
Authentication rejected...
Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running."

ps -ef | grep dcopserver shows [dcopserver] <defunct>

When I click ok, I get a kwin crash report (not sure if it's caused by
dcopserver having crashed)

hit enter, then I can go through the installer. not very pretty since
kwin is not running.

cat /var/log/messages | grep dcop shows dcopserver_shut segfault
error 4
