[Bug 121845] Re: CD ripping into a artist/album directory hierarchy is nearly impossible

* If I just open the audio cd in konqueror there is a WAV and an OGG dir
but no mp3-dir. Why is the mp3-codec not installed as default?

Legal issues.

* With the mp3 codec installed, the mp3-folder does only contain the
very mp3-files. Not an artist/album directory hierarchy, so I have to
make this myself. A total no-go if you are about to rip a ton of CDs.

Most CD's are one album by one artist, so this is fine for most use
cases.

* When right clicking on the Audio CD icon on the desktop and selecting
Extract Digital Audio with k3b, it (k3b) says that an mp3 encoder has to
be installed and gives a very technical instruction on how to do this.
If I have no mp3-encoder installed, why am I presented to the Extract
Digital Audio with k3b option in the first place?

I haven't tested this, but if that happens, I agree that's a bug. The
Extract Digital Audio entry should be there because you can rip to OGG,
but k3b needs to be smarter about installing mp3 support. If this is
still the behavior in Hardy, please file a new wishlist bug against k3b.

* Installing KAudioCreator (manually!) gives me yet another option but
not even here can I proceed without making a bunch of complicated
modifications: There is still no mp3-encoding available and in order to
configure e.g. encoding bitrate I have to manually edit an argument text
string.

To configure the bitrate for ripping through konqueror, go to System
Settings > Advanced > Audio CDs. I think kaudiocreator has it's own
configuration, and if that's not very good, please file a wishlist bug
about it at bugs.kde.org.

With k3b you can make an artist/album heirarchy, as well as with Amarok as Paul mentioned. So, I am closing this bug as Invalid. Feel free to report any other problems you may find.

** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
