I can confirm the same error on my laptop. I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad X40, with on-board  Intel Integrated graphics. Upon logout/restart/shutdown, the screen will go black. This is a fresh install (not upgrade) with all updates applied as of July 11th 2008. 
This bug was not present in Gutsy, and it's really frustrating.
