** Description changed:

  On a fresh Kubuntu 8.10 install the screen flickers on every keyboard press or mouse roll. 
  It is almost invisible, but VERY noticable on a remote X session! It makes typing through a remote X session a nightmare.
+ The flickering is only visible on CRT monitors. On fast systems there are horizontal black lines during typing, but on lower end systems the screen shakes very much.
  
  Killing krunner stops the flickering.
  
  (This is a *different* flicker than the screen flashing every 8 seconds
  caused by the Kubuntu krandr daemon, which is reported elsewhere.)
