Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: knetworkmanager
I'm having biiiig problems with Knetworkmanager...
My hardware :
- Wireless : Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network connection (wlan0)
- Ethernet controller : Realtek Semi conductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (eth0)
The problems :
- When kde starts, Knetworkmanager connects thanks to the ethernet controller, even if the cable isn't plugged in. The ip is 0.0.0.0 and of course no access to the internet (the cale is unplugged).
- Sometimes when the cable is plugged in, it can't connect. Sometimes, it can
- Sometimes, after being connected thanks to the unplugged cable or when I switch from wireless to ethernet connection, my ethernet controller disappears. eth0 doesn't exists any more on my computer, only my wireless controller remains
The only solution in this case is to reboot under Windows (which, thanks
god, I have on this computer for professionnal softwares), my Realtek
controller doesn't appear there either, but if I reinstall the wireless
drivers and reboot the computer, the ethernet controller reappears.
I never have problems with ethernet and wireless connection under
windows, this problem only occurs in linux, so I think that's the fact
of Knetworkmanager. It also sometimes have problems when trying to get
the IP (please look at the picture attached, the ethernet controller
disappears just after that).
Moreover (yes, I really have a lot of problems, I never had problems like this before with my old computer, but with my new laptop connecting to the Internet has become a nightmare if I want to use ethernet cable !), when I choose "Manual configuration", and choose "dhcp" in "configure interface" for eth0 and wlan0,
then apply and ok, this option is not saved. If I launch "manual configuration" again, select an interface, then "configur interface", no option is checked. I do it again, "automatic -> dhcp", ok, apply, ok... Try again, oh no, it's not there...
This is turning me crazy ! If I can't use ethernet connection under
linux without killing my eth0, I'll have to use windows everytime I'll
won't have access to Wifi ! And even worse, this horrible
Knetworkmanager tries to connect through eth0 even if the cable is
unplugged !
If someone can tell me what I could do... If you need complementary
information about something, just tell me what to type, I'll give you
the answer...
