I am seeing the same behavior on a fully up to date (well as of 04/10/2008 @ 10:30AM EDT) 8.04 Hardy Kubuntu install and my 1GB shuffle. I don't see anything out of the ordinary in any log files or console output.
I am wondering if the issue that I have been having w/ Amarok not auto mounting the Shuffle is at all related to this. Before the Amarok 1.4.9 update (last last night) I could mount the ipod manually then "connect" it in Amarok. But now w/ 1.4.9, Amarok will not connect at all, I am sure that this new 1.4.9 issue is a totally different issue all together, and I am currently looking for a bug relating to it.
