i hope this will be fixed in the next release
the main site says that kubuntu is designed for everyone as a replacement os for your desktop pc
but a new guy or one that doesn't know much about computers not being able to shut down the computer (which im sure you'll all agree is a must)
with out rewriting the menu.lst is unthinkable i myself also suffer from this bug and i dont see the option im useing right know ( i dont use the upslash) as an acceptable one and i know about people who stopped using kubuntu just because of this bug.
being able to shutdown your computer without the risk of a burned hard
drive or havening to rewrite code (even though its only rewriting the
menu.lst its still is rewriting code, just thinking about that makes
some people quit before they start and is annoying for the rest of us)
is a must. is not a some fancy eye candy is the most basic of things
ever.
the fact that kubuntu has such a serious bug for such a long time and
without getting fixed makes it seems as another amateur distribution,
and it deserves more then that its one of the bests
(i cant recommend it to my friends and then tell them: theres only one
problem - you cant shut it down without rewriting some lines of code)
